New BBC RB channels

Just been checking out the new BBCRB channels. There are  RBHD, RB1, RB2 and RB3. Tonight RBHD is showing the live football in HD (also being shown in SD on BBC3). RB1 has MotoGP and RB2/3 are just 'title' pages. This is pretty good news for us on Freesat as the BBC will hopefully be using these for big events like Wimbledon, Glastonbury etc. as well as a dedicated place to find extra (red button) content, we have another HD channel too!

Re: New BBC RB channels

Can't see why the RB HD channel can't be used to show HD content fron BBC3/BBC4 as BBC HD used to.

Hi sleeper

We have the RB HD channel on 980 on in the office this morning and can confirm all is working OK. Have you tried a retune.

If the issue continues, please feel free to get back in touch.

Hi Nicholai, last night all that was on the BBC RB HD channel was a blank screen.
Folk were moaning about it on various forums and those that were able had to resort to using Freeview instead.
And for those that were unable to use Freeview we had to watch something else instead.

Re: BBC RB HD showing nothing

The whole Red button services seems to be a bit of a let down at the moment as not showing what's advertised.
According to my EPG RBHD is Tennis: Eastbourne International = Channel not available when you tune in.
RB1 is Rick Steins India = The Super League Show when you tune in.
RB2 is Wimbledon = An advert about what to expect on BBC Red Button that runs on a loop.

Never understood why the BBC spends our licence fee on an elitist sport such as tennis not to mention scrapping the schedules for two weeks in order to shove it down our throats.  Personally I'd rather nail my eyelids to the desk.

Re: New BBC RB channels

http://www.a516digital.com/2013/06/ongoing-discussions-to-restore-bbc-red.html?spref=tw&m=1

The BBC's Alix Pryde has confirmed that ongoing discussions are taking place to restore the BBC Red Button HD channel on satellite.

BBC Red Button HD first launched on Freesat channel 980 on the 6th June. Due to an apparent failure to reach an agreement with the pay TV giant, the first few days of Red Button HD from last Thursday remained absent from Sky's channel line-up.

Now the service has been withdrawn from satellite completely. Alix Pryde has confirmed that the BBC is "working with Sky" on both matters - i.e. not being available on Sky and not being available on Freesat.

It is likely that there are issues surrounding the data being sent alongside the Red Button HD service. Simply put, there needs to be two different sets of data on the same satellite transponder, enabling both Sky and Freesat boxes decode the channels, with Freesat data needing to pass through an adaptation hub, operated by Sky. This is because both platforms use different systems and technologies. Although Freesat operates as an independent platform, the adaptation hub stage can affect how services are launched on both Freesat and Sky. Often, new services appear on the Sky channel list first.

There have also been reports that the BBC is unwilling to pay extra platform fees for carriage on Sky. The BBC, alongside other public service broadcasters, are charged additional fees by Sky on top of the typical EPG fees charged by all digital TV platform operators. Media reports often call the extra Sky fees "retransmission fees", although Sky uses the same signal uplinked by the BBC and other public service broadcasters to satellite and used by Freesat. The BBC recently began receiving a discount from Sky after the Corporation allowed Sky to carry its catch-up portal BBC iPlayer.

The surprise removal of the HD service on Freesat channel 980 has angered various internet forum members expecting to see HD Confederation's Cup coverage via BBC Red Button HD. The facts regarding the Red Button HD removal on satellite may yet be revealed and the channel may be reinstated in time for Wimbledon and Glastonbury next week - in the meantime BBC Red Button HD continues on Freeview HD/YouView channel 303 and via Virgin Media.

Re: New BBC RB channels

so does this mean that no channel may exist on freesat, unless it's on Sky ?

Why not just broadcast the data that's required for freesat.

Not looking good for freesat.

Disappointing to say the least. So Freesat viewers are at the mercy of Sky. Something very wrong here.

Re: New BBC RB channels

I have just read the BBC info. about the new connected red button (CRB) service - does anyone know if / when it will be available on freesat? And will it ever be available on the old (more than 2  years) Panasonic TVs?

Re: New BBC RB channels

The channels are already there. There is a technical hitch/sky are being a pain and there is a delay in the HD channel being made available. Although it is still on my EPG, it says scrambled.

Looks to be some good news for Freesat with what looks like a return of BBC RB HD next week, dont think it looks as if Sky will be getting it though.
